In 1726, Jonathan Swift wrote Gulliver´s Travels and in chapter 2 the Emperor’s men search Gulliver for weapons. The men discover Gulliver’s watch and conjecture that the watch is Gulliver’s god; for Gulliver always consults it before he does anything, and it marks “the time for every action of his life.” I thought that this was a unique interpretation of time that has a vague impression of truth. Indeed, time is very important in modern life. We schedule dinners with friends, meetings at work, and nearly every activity of our life. Thus, time is a kind of oracle that we consult before doing anything.
Cuando en 1726, Jonathan Swift escribió Los viajes de Gulliver ya describe a un hombre dominado por un extraño oráculo - su reloj - y cuyo dios es el imparable e implacable tiempo.
En Liliput aún no existía la maravillosa tecnología que permitía a Gulliver medir el tiempo y ordenar su vida haciéndola más eficaz, más productiva, más rápida, más rentable . . . pero también más esclava del tiempo. El tiempo también existía en aquel país diminuto, pero no estaba mecanizado ni se guardaba en un cofre de plata. Y es que lo que los liliputienses no sabían es que el reloj, al hacer a Gulliver dueño de su tiempo, lo había encadenado también a él.
